Through school camps, CYC is dedicated to providing life-changing outdoor and educational programs that inspire young people to grow in their confidence and leadership skills. Through activities and temporary community, our school camps help young people discover the outdoors, how to work as a team, and to succeed in taking on individual challenges.
Through ministry camps, CYC seeks to provide safe, fun, and challenging experiences for young people in a faith-based environment. We offer outdoor adventure, recreational, and educational programmes that encourage personal growth, teamwork, to help young people find their purpose and strengthen their faith.

Position Overview
The Instructor/Host plays a vital dual role at CYC
As an Activity Instructor, you’ll be a key part of our team delivering a range of outdoor, adventure, and recreational activities for school groups, churches, and community organisations, facilitating engaging outdoor activity-based programs.
As a host, you will work to ensure all guests experience a warm, welcoming, and spiritually uplifting environment. The Host is a pivotal position liaising between the guest groups and the camp staff, taking over the relationship that the Booking Staff have started to build with guest group coordinators, and the guests themselves, to help them have the best temporary community environment possible.

Key Responsibilities
Program Instruction & Facilitation
• Model positive Christian values in interactions with campers, staff, and visitors.
• Lead and instruct a variety of camp activities (e.g. archery, climbing, crate climbing, BMX biking, water-based activities, team-building challenges, etc.)
• Using ABL to encourage and motivate campers to step outside their comfort zones while ensuring a supportive environment.
• Assist with the preparation, setup, and pack-down of activities and equipment.
• Provide first aid response where required (training provided if needed).
• Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles and ensure all participants are involved and supported.
• Maintain high standards of safety and professionalism in all instructional areas.
Hosting & Guest Experience
• Serve as a primary point of contact for visiting groups and ensure their needs are met throughout their stay.
• Create a friendly, hospitable, and Christ-centred environment for all campers, leaders, and guests.
• Assist with orientation sessions, site tours, and group coordination.
• Support meal service, clean-up, and general camp operations as needed to uphold the camp’s hospitality standards.
Team & Ministry Contribution
• Model Christian values through words, actions, and servant leadership.
• Work collaboratively with other staff to deliver cohesive and impactful camp experiences.
• Participate in staff worship, training, and team development sessions.
• Contribute to the ongoing spiritual and emotional well-being of campers and staff.
Specific Skills and other requirements:
• Passion for working with young people in a Christian environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead groups confidently and with enthusiasm.
• Understanding of group dynamics and team-building principles.
• Strong awareness of safety and risk management.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends during peak seasons.
• A personal and active Christian faith with a desire to serve in ministry.
• Current First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Extra skills that would be of benefit in the role
• Qualifications in Outdoor Education, Youth Ministry, or related field.
• Previous outdoor instruction or youth work experience
• Experience in facilitation, teaching, or leadership development.
• Full driver’s licence
• Willing to undergo a NZ police check.
