Child Protection Policy
This policy explains how we keep our tamariki and rangatahi safe at CYC, both during camp and when they return home.
It outlines the steps our staff and volunteers follow to create a safe environment, respond appropriately to concerns, and help prevent any form of abuse or harm.
Employee Hiring & Training Process
We take child safety seriously and carefully screen all employees before they join our team. Our process includes:
Application and formal interview process
CV and cover letter requirements
Police vetting and risk assessment
Reference checks before employment
Completion of all required documentation and policy reading
Full employee induction and orientation
Child safety, Health & Safety, and emergency procedure training
First Aid training for staff
Ongoing professional development and role-specific training
Our goal is to ensure all employees are equipped to provide a safe, supportive, and well-supervised environment for every child and young person at camp.
Before each holiday camp, all volunteers complete training and induction before campers arrive.
This includes:
Pre-camp preparation and information emails
Child Protection training and reminders
Annual OSCAR questionnaires and assessments
Camp inductions covering supervision, safety, and behaviour expectations
Guidance on responding to concerns or disclosures appropriately
We work to ensure every volunteer understands their role in helping keep camp safe, supportive, and fun for all campers.
